Cartel Gang Activity in Mequon Should Be A Wake Up Call
Letter to the Editor by Anonymous
The recent burglaries in Mequon — tied to a South American crime group — should be a wake-up call for all of us in Ozaukee. This isn’t some random one-off. This is the same situation that Aurora, Colorado dealt with last year when cartel linked gangs started moving into that community. And as Aurora found out, once these groups settle in, they don’t leave easily - or ever..
These aren’t small-time criminals. They’re organized, they’re coordinated, and they pick quiet, safe communities on purpose because they think we won’t push back with any teeth. The reality is simple: groups like the South American cartels only understand one language: strength. They are vicious animals.
That’s why I’m urging the Ozaukee County Sheriff, Mequon PD, and every local agency in Ozaukee to spare no expense in getting ahead of this. Extra patrols, better coordination, new tools — whatever it takes. We’re not dealing with normal crime here. We are dealing with hardened, violent, professional criminals that will kill without hesitation.
We have got to do our part with cameras, alarms, staying armed etc. At the end of the day, however, keeping these groups out of our community takes serious law enforcement that isn’t afraid to step up and make it clear that Ozaukee County is not an easy target - that we will not be bullied by cartel thugs.
If what happened in Aurora teaches us anything, it’s this: every state is now a border state. And if we don’t show strength early, these groups only get bolder and will grow in numbers. It is now or never to act. We must crush this threat before it is too late. Otherwise, we will become just another turf for the cartel to run free.
